Research Notes/sketches
Although “The Matrix” is a science fiction film, it is the inspiration for my artwork. This movie narrates about a young hacker who found the real world is controlled by a computer artificial intelligence system called the matrix. Human minds and memory become part of the computer’s code and live in a virtual world. This movie reminds me to build a website as an artwork. Because a website is built by a lot of codes and numbers. Same as “The Matrix”, the body of a human is controlled by the matrix, only mind alive on the computer. When people watch my video, they will think about things that seem ordinary, friends or family are not real.
Bostrom, N., (2003). “Are you living in a Simulation?”

Bostrom proposes a hypothetical theory of virtual worlds. First, "The fraction of human-level civilizations that reach a posthuman stage (that is, one capable of running high-fidelity ancestor simulations) is very close to zero", or "The fraction of posthuman civilizations that are interested in running simulations of their evolutionary history, or variations thereof, is very close to zero", or "The fraction of all people with our kind of experiences that are living in a simulation is very close to one". He believed the first and second could be true. Maybe people will never have the ability to discover the universe because there is a powerful force is dominating the human race. If there are no unknown forces, people would have explored the mysteries of the universe.
The 6th Guangzhou Triennial (2018) “As we may think: Feedforward” YOU:R :CODE
This exhibition combined the work of about 50 artists from 15 countries. A variety of large-scale installations, videos, and precision machines are displayed in different exhibition halls, and the audiences can also participate in the interaction. There is an artwork called “YOU: R: CODE” when people stand in front of a mirror, this mirror will turn the people in the mirror into a body of digital data. Eventually, the visitor will be reduced to an industrial readable code, just as we are made by genetic code. In my artwork, one of the central ideas is to show the world that we live is virtual, and numbers and codes are one of the elements that can show that the world is not real. Such as a person’s height, weight, gender, etc can be represented in code.
Ndalianis, A. (2003) “Neo-Baroque Aesthetics and Contemporary Entertainment”
In this article, the writer analyzes, in contemporary society, the entertainment embodies the Baroque. People through 3D technology to develop the virtual scene. Like theme park and 3D, 4D movies use the illusion to give the audience the real feeling, that audience is invited into the fictitious world. These characters in a theme park can interact with audiences, thus the Neo-Baroque break or blur the bound between the real and fake world. My artwork approach Neo-Baroque, I want to blur the border of virtual and real through this video, and let audience question their space is unreal.
