My artwork called “Art Shock.” I want to express the shock between traditional art and contemporary art. I created a white frame and named it “Art.” This white frame just like a rule to limit contemporary enter the formal gallery. I think audiences may feel strange about that, because in western cultural people almost accept and understand contemporary art. However, in China people haven’t accepted all kinds of artworks, and there are less Chinese contemporary artists can create avant-garde. Recently, I did some researches about Chinese avant-garde, I suddenly surprise about Chinese contemporary art because some of the contemporary artwork cannot be accepted by Chinese formal gallery. I tried to put two different things together, but these two things have some relationship. For example, the first part of this video, I put two urinals, and the first blue and white porcelain which is from ancient times, can enter the “Art” frame, but the second one Duchamp’s “Tate” cannot enter this frame. However, technically say, these two things are same. The blue and white porcelain urinal represents Chinese stereotype concept in contemporary art, and the “Tate” means western concept about avant-garde. The second one shows a Mona Lisa and Olympia images, and they can enter the “Art” frame. However, Suzy Lake’s “Red Enhancement” photos cannot enter this frame, which means when Suzy lake’s artworks exhibit in the Chinese gallery, the commitment censored her artworks.

Furthermore, the third part shows “David,” and an old vest enter the frame. However, Allen Jones’ table and Ai Weiwei’s “Coca-Cola Vest” cannot enter. Ai Weiwei's artworks always involve Chinese political, so he can not develop his artworks in China. For Allen Jones’s table, Which means artworks involved about sex, then it can not be accepted in the formal gallery. There is a part, I showed some “Artist’s Shit” cans and dollars, which means in gallery the money surmount the artwork. At the beginning and the end, I put a collage of “Liberty Leading the People,” which means I hope in the future Chinese Avant-garde artists can have more space to create artworks. I got inspiration from Marilyn Minter’s artworks, because her artworks are very colorful. She would like to use shinny material on the tones or lips to take photos or video. So when I did my final project I use very twinkling background to set off the collages, and it looks very modern and funky. I edited the background music first, then I depended the music to make the stop motion animation. I think the reason why Chinese gallery limited some of contemporary artworks entered the gallery is impenetrable. So I use the unreasonable and interesting music to give people a unsuitable and facetious feeling.
